Is HDPE Pipe Resistant To High Temperature?

Nov 26, 2022

The applicable temperature of HDPE pipes is -60°C~40°C, no special protective measures need to be taken during construction in winter, and the pipes will not be brittle.

The low-temperature impact resistance of PE pipe is very good. The low-temperature embrittlement temperature of polyethylene is extremely low, and it can be used safely in the temperature range of -60-60°C. During construction in winter, because the material has good impact resistance, the pipe will not be damaged. Brittle.

Features of HDPE pipes:

HDPE pipes must withstand a certain pressure, and PE resins with large molecular weight and good mechanical properties, such as HDPE resins, are usually selected. LDPE resin has low tensile strength, poor pressure resistance, poor rigidity, poor dimensional stability during molding, and difficult connection, so it is not suitable as a material for water supply pressure pipes.

However, due to its high hygienic index, LDPE, especially LLDPE resin has become a common material for the production of drinking water pipes. LDPE and LLDPE resins have low melt viscosity, good fluidity, and are easy to process, so there is a wide selection range for their melt index, usually MI is between 0.3-3g/10min.
